MY STORY

I grew up on the South side of one of the most segregated cities in the United States. Milwaukee, Wisconsin is currently number three on the list of most segregated cities in the U.S. Dying to see something other than racial inequality and buildings too close together, when making my college choice, I knew I wanted to be closer to my grandparents and nature in general. Enter, the leading natural resources college in Wisconsin, the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point.

Sustainable Swaps is truly my own passion project. I am a full time college student majoring in Sustainability and double minoring in Biology and Chemistry. I enrolled in college originally to be a veterinarian. My junior year I realized that a love for animals is not all you need to become one. It is a massive time and financial commitment, not to mention extremely stressful work. My recommendation to anyone considering college is to be honest with yourself. The earlier you figure out what you want to do with your life, the easier it will be for you. I am finally taking classes I enjoy, and it is so freeing.

In my free time I work at the tropical conservatory and two other greenhouses on my campus. I also volunteer at the local CO-OP and the Sustainability Office. I also love writing about sustainability and sharing all of my thoughts about the environment and how to help it with my readers so that they can potentially make sustainable swaps with me. I also run a blog specifically related to UWSP called Surviving UWSP

I stay connected to a community of like-minded people through the Brightly ambassador program, the Sustainability Office at my school, the local CO-OP in Stevens Point, and the local chapter of a global organization called 350 - Stevens Point. I encourage all of my readers to check them all out.

My goal after college is to see the world and make an impact before the world becomes even more messed up than it already is. I have my whole life to get into the workforce. If you have any recommendations for organizations that could help me travel or employ me for this kind of work, let me know.

I am so excited to take my readers on this journey with me. I hope you enjoy browsing my site and all of the articles I have to offer. I care a lot about the environment, and if you do not, I hope you can learn a little bit about why it matters to me on my page.

All of the products I mention in my articles will eventually be on my linktree. If you have any questions about my sustainability journey, college journey, or life, feel free to reach out to me!
